McKenna speaks to Stigler Center JIRs
I was briefly in Chicago to see mom for Mother's Day and to speak, in person, to the Stigler Center Journalists in Residence.
I have a long and strong association with the Stigler Center, its Journalist in Residence Fellowship, and the University of Chicago including the Booth School of Business and the Chicago Booth Review.
In 2017 I was a member of the inaugural Journalist in Residence class and have been supporting the program by interviewing for subsequent classes and speaking to its fellows ever since. As my deliverable for the program in 2017 I wrote three columns for the Stigler Center ProMarket blog on the business of the Big 4 global audit firms including the industry’s relatively under-scrutinized competition and monopsony issues.
My interest in being a JIR Fellow in 2017 was sparked by my affinity for the school based on matriculating to a Masters in Liberal Arts from the university in 2016 and having written for the Chicago Booth Review for many years prior. I continue to write for Booth Review. The association with Chicago Booth Review and its wonderful editors, my friends Hal Weitzman and Emily Lambert, has allowed me to write about many different topics and the associated academic research, including a huge feature last summer on antitrust. It has also allowed me to introduce other writers to the roster, such as my great friend and former MarketWatch colleague Andrea Riquier.
This past Monday I was asked to speak to the Stigler Center JIR’s about corporate fraud and who finds it. Here is the presentation:
