Singing for your supper: Defending audit firms and auditors
We've all got to make a living but some of us are more intellectually consistent about it.
Thursday's child has far to go... Nursery rhyme first recorded in A. E. Bray's Traditions of Devonshire (Volume II, pp. 287–288)
I'm almost there, almost ready to start the term for University of Miami, where I will be teaching a custom-developed case course on corporate fraud for the Masters of Accounting students. It's a hybrid-style delivery, mostly virtual, with a week in beautiful Coral Gables in person to discuss our KPMG-PCAOB teaching case and then whistleblowers. Thanks to Department Chair Miguel Minutti-Meza for the opportunity.
Last week I drove to Chicago and West Lafayette, IN to visit mom and my undergraduate alma mater Purdue University. I presented some key cases in corporate fraud to MAcc students, not my mom, and then spoke to an accounting club Wednesday night. Boy oh boy it's not your 1980's era Purdue Union anymore. Karaoke in the Union basement! The 2024 student was singing to "Tainted Love," which came out when I was there!
What a beautiful renovation to make the on-campus hotel the only Marriott Autograph collection hotel that is run by students! I must say I got a bit nostalgic about all those days in Harry's and the Stabilizer, which sadly is now the parking lot of the new Rawls building. Took a walk around Von's, too, and bought some rocks. Thanks to Troy Janes for the first-time invite to return to where it all started.
